I can imagine that this is a question that many women who have had children and many men or women who have lost weight ask themselves.  With pregnancy and/or weight loss, the shape and contour of the abdomen and waist changes.  Some of these changes can be improved with diet and exercise and some, unfortunately cannot.

The body changes that we cannot address with diet and exercise include:

  • stretch marks
  • loose skin that has lost its elasticity
  • -loose abdominal wall
  • -belly button shape/appearance
  • It is these changes in our body that we cannot improve with diet and exercise that eventually leads to the question “

Tummy tuck surgery, also known as an abdominoplasty, is a procedure designed to correct or improve the presence of stretch marks, excess loose skin, loose abdominal wall, poor belly button shape/appearance, and general contour of the abdomen and waist.  A patient that desires improvement in the appearance of their abdomen and waist that has some or all of these body characteristics may be a tummy tuck candidate.  Some additional patient requirements that I also look at to determine if someone is a good tummy tuck candidate includes:

  • -general health
  • -an understanding of the recovery that goes along with a tummy tuck
  • -and stable weight

There are several different types of tummy tuck procedures available; each one suited for a particular body type as well as the desired goal.

All the best,
